Hohoe MP Engages ECG Over Persistent Power Challenges

Hohoe, Ghana - Residents of the Hohoe Municipality have been grappling with persistent power supply challenges, especially in the evenings.

In response to growing public concern, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Hohoe, Hon. Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo, has engaged with the management of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in a bid to find lasting solutions to the crisis.

During a working visit to the ECG office in Hohoe, the MP interacted with officials to understand the root causes of the ongoing power fluctuations and relay complaints from the affected constituents.

In discussions with the ECG management, it was revealed that Hohoe’s power supply is sourced from the Kpando main transformer which also serves Dambai and other growing communities. The rapid population increase within these areas has significantly overburdened the transformer, leading to voltage fluctuations and inconsistent power supply.

Additionally, ongoing gas pipeline maintenance by GRIDCo has exacerbated the problem, causing further disruptions in electricity distribution across the municipality.

ECG officials assured the MP that measures are being put in place to improve the situation. According to the ECG manager, within the next one to two weeks an additional transformer will be installed to ease the load on the existing system. Furthermore, the completion of the gas pipeline maintenance by GRIDCo is expected to restore normalcy to the power supply in Hohoe.

Beyond the broader power supply issues, the MP also raised specific concerns regarding:

  • Meter Removals: Clarification was sought on the disconnection of some meters and the process for reinstatement.
  • Streetlight Maintenance: Calls were made for swift repairs and regular upkeep of non-functional streetlights to enhance security.
  • Postpaid to Prepaid Transition: The MP emphasized the need for public education on the migration process and urged ECG to address concerns raised by affected customers.

The ECG manager, in response, acknowledged these challenges and pledged to improve customer engagement. He assured that steps would be taken to enhance communication with residents, including the use of local media to provide timely updates and educate the public on power-related matters.

Speaking after the engagement, the MP reiterated his commitment to ensuring that Hohoe receives a stable and reliable power supply to support local businesses, educational institutions, and households. He pledged to continue working with relevant stakeholders to push for sustainable solutions to the region’s electricity challenges.

"The people of Hohoe deserve uninterrupted power supply, and I will do everything within my power to ensure this issue is resolved," the MP stated.

Residents of Hohoe remain hopeful that these interventions will yield positive results in the coming weeks, bringing much-needed relief to the constituency.
