Inside the exclusive Volta Serene Hotel in Ho, the 2025 edition of an annual gathering of traditional leaders of Ewe communities in the West African Sub Region is being awaited.
Togbe Afede, the Agbogbomefia of Asogli has succeeded in bringing together fellow rulers of the tribe for the realisation of his idea of a union of African traditional leaders.
The fourth such meeting comes off on Thursday, October 02, 2025 as a major highlight of the increasingly popular Te Za, yam festival of the people of Ho, and about 200 rulers from the popular west African tribe are expected to attend.
The annual gathering has so far made some significant strides towards its ultimate goal - the establishment of an African Traditional Leadership Union.
Togbe Afede has exhibited sterling commitment towards the realisation of the Union, which he said would help position traditional authority for the development of the African Continent.
According to him, the traditional leadership establishment should take the likes of the African Union in the pursuit of a peaceful and well developed African nation.
The summit has been held each year since 2022, and the formation of an African Traditional Leadership Institute (ATLI) was announced at the third meeting.
Togbe Afede called the Institute the “vehicle that will deliver the Union”.
The ATLI is being hosted at the Accra World Trade Center, and has the traditional ruler as its President.
The Institute takes position as a center of research instrumental in the quest for the growth and development of the African nation.
Prominent Ewe traditional rulers from Ghana, Togo, and Benin continue to honour the summit over the years, boosting its impact.
As a forum for the promotion of broader initiatives, members of the tribe were called upon at the last meeting to support a proposed heritage centre project for the Eweland at Notsie.
The huge multi complex would serve as the main center of pilgrimage for the Ewe people, providing the space and resources for the preservation of culture and spirituality.
Traditional rulers and development commentators continue to applaud Togbe Afede for the vision of a unified front for traditional leaders in Africa, pledging support for the realisation of the Union.
