Ghana’s Deputy Finance Minister, John Kumah has passed on.
The death occurred in the morning of March 7 after a short illness. The 45 year old is the MP for Ejisu in the Asante Region. He was pronounced dead at the Suhum Government Hospital while being transported to Accra in a medical emergency.
He leaves behind a wife and six children.
Mr Kumah held the position as head of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme in 2017 before his appointment as a deputy minister for finance. He was a lawyer who owned a successful construction firm, and had dedicated his life to politics, known for founding a youth activist group for his party, the NPP, known as Young Patriots.
The late minister had recieved some enviable recognition for his service, and news of his passing run through the country within moments of its breaking.
President Akufo Addo in a message right after the death was communicated, called on the nation to mourn the beloved politician.
“I am deeply saddened by the tragic news of the sudden death of the Deputy Minister for Finance and Member of Parliament for Ejisu, Hon. John Ampontuah Kumah, whose untimely passing has left us all bereft of a bright, energetic light in our midst.
“His unwavering dedication to service, his tireless commitment to the betterment of our nation, and his profound passion for uplifting the lives of the people of Ejisu and Ghana were evident to all who had the privilege of knowing him,” he said.
